Thousands of innocent children are victims of wars initiated by adults. Many of them have their lives ruined by psychological or physical injuries, and many die. Over the past year, the number of children dying in wars has increased drastically.

Epitaph
Rest in peace,
you unknown infant,
born into war
and who died out of it.
Brought into the world amidst
the lights and sounds of explosions,
you clung to your mother’s warmth
and felt her fear.
Thus you lived your cosmic miracle
for a few chaotic days
until all that was you faded.
Now you are laid to rest
in the earth you never got to walk upon,
you who died innocent
for our greatest sins.
In several countries, there is a ‘Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,’ a symbolic grave of honor for the remains of unknown soldiers who have fallen in war, but there is no equivalent for children. With this kit, you can create a living memorial for children killed in war – a memorial that, if cared for and allowed to take root, can last for over a thousand years.
Sow the seed, read the poem, water and care.

1 olive tree seed
1 poem (Epitaph)
Instructions
Snip off a bit of the pointed end of the seed. Be careful not to cut all the way to the core inside the shell. Soak the seed in lukewarm water for 24 hours. Use seed soil mixed with a bit of sand or perlite. Sow the seed twice as deep as the diameter of the seed (about 0.5 cm).
For optimal germination conditions: Keep the temperature at 15–18 degrees Celsius for about a month. Then increase it to around 21 degrees. The seed should normally germinate during this second month with the increased temperature. Throughout the period: Keep the soil surface moist but not wet. Allow the soil surface to dry out slightly between waterings. Optionally, cover with clear plastic with ventilation holes, and air out a bit extra at regular intervals.
Olive trees can be grown both indoors and outdoors. Repot into a larger pot as the tree grows.
